I've a feeling we're not in Kansas any more - Dorothy Shoes finished!

They are finished and I am so very happy with the way they turned out, so much so that I don't really know if I want to part with them! I went with just the one charm on each, little ruby slippers and a Toto in Tibetan silver.

They are lined with red ribbon as instead of the usual way I do of cutting the paper at the top I had to fold it over so the original gold didn't show through.

The heels look black in the photos but as seen in the previous posts they are actually ruby red and sparkly! I think I may hang on them for just a little bit longer :)

Comic Book Shoes

The first shoes I ever decorated were ones for a Super Hero party. I went as Poison Ivy with themed shoes!

My first ever customised shoes!

Since then I have made one of my favourite pairs for a customer,  peep toe batman which had to be planned,  made and shipped in 48hrs!

Customer wanted the Gotham guys so I managed to get
Robin, Joker, Penguin and of course the Caped Crusader on them! :)

Now I have made another pair featuring the Gotham girls for me.

My inner geek loves the Batman women, the shoes feature Batgirl,
Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Zatanna and my favourite Harley Quinn!

Comic book decoupage works so well, as the mix of imagery, text plus popping colours looks so fab. The trick is to find comic strips with similar artwork or stick to one charecter where a mix of cartoon styles will still look good together due to the character's signature style and colour!
I really hope I get to make some more comic book themed styles in the future. :)

Disney Princess Shoes

Ok, so a lot of people make these Disney shoes.  So I've tried to make mine a little different by using pearls and gem decoration and the fabulous roses! I used wrapping paper which is thinner than the paper I am use to normally working with and requires a gentler touch! I'm really happy with how they have turned out, they are hyper girly! Harley Quinn Dresses

I picked up this dress for £5, the photo doesn't really do it justice as it is far more beautiful in the flesh! I'm a big Harley Quinn fan so I'm going to turn it into a costume, something along the lines of the fabulous dress below!
I was Harley Quinn for last Halloween as well and created a more fitted style using white and black felt. I was really pleased with the finished result (plus my custom shoes) and sold the dress on ebay after to another Harley enthusiast! Watch this space for my work on the new dress! :)

Baroness von Schrader Costume

I went to a Sound of Music sing along recently,  I love any chance to be glamorous so chose to go as Baroness von Schrader (even if she is considered the baddy at these events!).

I was on a budget so had to make the costume on a shoe string.

I got the dress on ebay, it's a maxi bandeau dress in stone, ebay is full of these one size dresses between £5-£7. The straps are made from ribbon from a Christmas parcel. The puffy brooch is simply stiff white netting cut and gathered with a safety pin to attach. The gloves are also ebay for £3.

I got a pair of gold shoes for £6 also on ebay and finished the look of with full face makeup and paste diamond earrings and necklace.

I'll get you, my pretty and your little shoes, too!

I originally bought these shoes for a Sound of Music sing along, I went as Baroness von Schrader (more on that in a future post!).

They are a great heel height,  and now I'm upcycling them with a Wizard of Oz theme. I've spent time today on turning the heels ruby red (and glittery).

I've got some amazing charms to choose ftom including Toto and now thinking about imagery.  I could go with MGM Wizard of Oz or use the illustrations. I'm veering towards the illustrations, but as I will be selling them Judy Garland might be more popular. Of course I could do a Wicked theme instead, I'd actually like to do a series...hmm maybe these can be my Dorothy shoes,  and then I'll do some Glinda and Elephba after, watch this space!  :)

Inspiration of the Day

Though the Martini Cardigan from Voodoo Vixen is very cute, what I find so inspiring about this image (from Her Vintage Life) is the glorious trashy/clashy mix off the turquoise and the red! Such a beautiful modern retro image, I want to make some cute bowling shoes (is that possible?) Using these colours and tiny Martini glass patches!
